the rejection of American ideals by today’s GOP.

Against my better judgment, I’ve enabled comments on the site. For the time being, they will be moderated, and you will have to sign up to post a comment. Civil debate, discourse, suggestions and corrections are all greatly appreciated. You’ll need to enable JavaScript to read or post comments.

You are also more than welcome to email me. Incivility will be firmly ignored—unless it’s particularly bad, in which case, I’ll probably ridicule you in public.

Hotlinking policy: The GDP graphs and the Kirk Cameron images seem to be terribly popular. In general, all I ask is that you ask (so I can make an exception for the hotlinking filter), and that you provide a reasonable attribution or link. It’s not that hard.

Three days

This should go without saying. There’s no way I should have to say this here. But I’m going to anyway.

Vote.

Vote as though the country depended on it.

Vote with your conscience. Vote with a well-informed set of opinions. Don’t give in to the sound-bites, the rumormongering, the quips, the extremist rhetoric from either end of the political spectrum. Do your research. Base your information on more than one source; synthesize your opinions from sources all over the philosophical landscape.

Do not demonize. Do not lie (to yourself or to others). Do not distort. Get as close to the truth as you possibly can.

If you have to resort to ridiculous claims about the opposition, you’re not doing it right. If you cannot win a debate based on the strength of your arguments, but have to resort to distortion or wild extrapolation, you’re not doing it right. If you cannot support your claims, if you cannot support your candidate with the truth, you’re not doing it right.

“It” meaning “being a citizen of the United States of America.”

Okay, so you may live in a firmly-red or firmly-blue state. Vote anyway. Join in the miraculous opportunity that democracy gives us, become part of the nation’s destiny, change those percentages just a little.

Vote.

Vote with your heart. Vote with your mind. Vote with your conscience.

It’s what America does.
